Filling out the Census form is easy

I’m very happy to be working for the Census this year. Its a great job that came along at a great time. Much more, I’m extremely impressed with the operation, organization, and efficiency of the whole thing.

I’ve also learned more about the importance of the thing. Whatever you believe about the government, if the government doesn’t know you are there, it can’t do much for you. Well, it can tax you, but you just won’t see any of it back in terms of disaster relief, schools, etc.

This is absolutely a case of the “left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.” And with the Census, it has to be that way. The IRS and any and every other entity out there, by law, can not and will not know anything about the little bit of information we collect. They’ll have access to the statistics but nothing with your name on it.

I’ve been around classified information and other “stuff” in my earlier military career and the lengths we go to to protect personal information collected in the census meets and sometimes exceeds the lengths the government goes to protecting classified information.

I’ll be writing more about the Census as time goes on. In the meanwhile, if you have any questions or experiences you want to add, please stick them in the comments.
