Browser: Firefox – not sure why anyone would use anything else. Every now and then I’ll try IE or switching to something else but always gravitate back to Firefox. I do use Google Chrome as sort of a backup and running a few web-based apps.
Twitter: Tweetdeck. I have multiple Twitter accounts and this keeps it easy to follow them all at the same time.
Calendar/Time Management: Google Calendar. I usually run this as a app in Chrome so it shows up in its own separate window. It is now easy to keep synced with my Iphone and I can consult my calendars anywhere there is a internet connection.
Office: OpenOffice – this completely free, open source, office suite (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, etc) has me not missing Microsoft Office one iota – but I do enjoy the money I’ve saved. I should also point out that for most of the light work and rough drafts I use Google Docs and am exploring Zoho.
Music and podcasts: Itunes. It is big, somewhat bulky and slow, but full featured and I have an Iphone.
Video player: VLC media player. I had been using Windows Media Player but now I prefer VLC. It is much lighter and less messy.
Photo and digital painting: GIMP – the open source free equivalent of Adobe Photoshop. For my purposes there is no need to buy or steal Photoshop. This does it all.
Video Editing: Corel VideoStudio 12
Mac:
Aside from the VideoStudio 12 and VLC, everything is the same. In those situation I use what comes with the Mac.
